Vintage Spode 1980 Prince Regent Tumbledown Dick Tea Cups and Saucers Sets- 4 Pieces

in 1813 Spode introduced stone China The grey-blue glaze and moderately glassy body of stone china provided a good base for imitating Chinese and Japanese porcelain. Asian designs inspired some early patterns, even Chinese-style seal marks could become back stamps. The designs were often transfer-printed in blue or printed in outline and painted with enamel colors. Stone china was a popular choice for the fashionable table. So popular were Spode’s products that Queen Charlotte visited the Portugal Street showroom in 1817 and purchased a stone china service for herself.

Tumbledown Dick was first introduced around 1820 with pattern number 2987. The pattern is a copy, or close representation, of a Chinese design of the Yung Cheng period (1723 – 1735). The pattern was produced at Spode in many versions. .

In 1980 Tumbledown Dick was produced as dinnerware on fine stone body and named Prince Regent. It had pattern number W160.. This version was probably withdrawn in the late 1980s all the fine stone was discontinued in the mid 1990s.
