After his regular studies, he worked in the workshop of a navy carpenter. He was graduated architect in 1958 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, after having travelled in the United States and in Europe. He opened his own workshop first in Clamart as well as a shop in Paris. Chapo’s work was inspired by Charlotte Perriand. Ten years later he settled down in Gordes, where he based the Société Chapo. He then dedicated himself mainly to his work as a carpenter and a cabinetmaker and gave a series of lectures about his great passion, wood.
