Vintage Design
The Haagse School movement was heavily influenced by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, which was promoted by the architects Berlage and Dudok. These chairs clearly show that influence. They refer to the High Back chair Frank Lloyd Wright designed in 1900 and also his “Chair with Slanted Back” from 1904. Rietveld’s Red and Blue chair was probably also inspired by these models.
These two chairs give us an insight in the development of the Arts and Crafts movement and how modernism developped in the Netherlands. They have recently been reuphoslstered with a pale yellow fabric. The color matches the color of the bricks Berlage and Dudok used for some of their most famous buildings.
